This was a personal branding concept exploring the return of the Canberra Cannons, developed in response to expansion momentum within the National Basketball League with the introduction of new teams such as South East Melbourne Phoenix and the Tasmanian JackJumpers.
The Brief
The brief was self-initiated, with the goal of reimagining the Canberra Cannons identity by modernising the original brand while retaining recognisable elements that long-time fans would connect with.
My Role
I worked as the sole designer on the project, leading the concept, creative direction, and execution across all elements of the identity.
The Approach
The approach focused on modernising a vintage brand by refining legacy elements into a cleaner, more contemporary visual system that could translate across professional sports applications while maintaining a strong connection to the original identity.
Selected Outcomes
The project resulted in a full visual concept including logo design, jersey mock-ups, court design, and a broader visual identity system to demonstrate how the brand could exist in a modern NBL context.
Outcomes
As a conceptual project, the work served as an exploration of how legacy sporting brands can be reintroduced with a modern lens.
Reflection
This project reinforced the importance of balancing heritage with modern design principles when evolving or reintroducing established sporting identities.
